Happy Skin Opens its First Boutique In Cebu

Happy Skin, the makeup brand that puts skincare first has just opened its first boutique in Cebu! Since it was founded in 2013, the brand quickly grew to become a Filipino favorite, which led to the launch of its first home outside Luzon and its 12th branch located at U/G North Wing, SM City Cebu. That makes 81 beauty counters nationwide.

True to its name, Happy Skin is makeup that cares for the skin. Apart from its innovative, high-quality formulas and gorgeous packaging that reached a cult-favorite status, Happy Skin truly dedicates itself to the conscious use of skin-caring ingredients in its makeup.

A Partnership of Beauty and Expertise

Happy Skin is a partnership between co-founders Jacqe Yuengtian-Gutierrez and Rissa Mananquil-Trillo. The two beauty authorities built a close relationship when Rissa went on board as brand ambassador and consultant for one of the beauty brands Jacqe was handling during her decade-long stint at Unilever.

With Jacqe’s expertise in brand development and Rissa’s 15-year experience in beauty and cosmetics as a model and beauty columnist, Happy Skin was reared to be an original brand of skin-loving makeup especially made for the Filipina. Rissa shares, “What fueled this dream of mine was how hard it was to find good makeup that would care for Filipina skin. I’ve had every imaginable makeup brand on my face. Makeup can instantly prettify you, but the biggest beauty woe is going home with ruined skin.”

When I spoke with Rissa and Jacqe during the launch of Happy Skin here in Cebu, they both emphasized on how the brand is meant to be fun and effortless. Likewise, Asia’s beauty capitals like Japan, Korea and Taiwan are among the countries where the brand extends its range of quirky products with the promise of quality products that don’t compromise the skin’s health.

Sharing Happiness for the Holidays

Since 2013, Happy Skin has been collaborating with local talents from the beauty and fashion industry. This year, the brand’s holiday collection is their first partnership with a global brand, and it’s none other than Disney.

“Disney plays a significant part of everyone’s childhood. It’s a brand so well-loved,” explains Rissa. “There is a huge embrace for all things nostalgic and throwback-related, for showing inner Disney love.” This collection reveals that when you’ve grown up with Disney’s iconic Princesses, no matter how old you are, there will always be a Princess in you.

“What’s amazing and magical is that the Princess franchise is so aspirational and relatable that all girls globally fall in love with the Disney Princess brand and develop a special, timeless connection with the characters,” says Veronica Cabalinan, general manager of the Walt Disney Company Philippines. “Collaborating with Happy Skin on a Disney Princess makeup range allows us to be a part of the everyday lives of Filipino women in a fun, compelling way.”

“While working on the product range, we consulted with Disney on shade selection so that we stay true to the personality of each Princess,” Happy Skin co-founder Jacqe Yuengtian-Gutierrez explains. “We have lippie shades that you grew up watching on the Princesses themselves, but we infused a modern feel by utilizing different textures—a moisturizing finish for Belle and Rapunzel, a matte finish for Snow White, Aurora, Elsa, and Anna, and a trendy liquid lipstick texture for Cinderella and Ariel.” After perfecting each shade and finish, Happy Skin ensured that the lippies would still offer the brand’s trademark formula that offers highly pigmented color with an exceptionally hydrating feel.
