Sinulog is a week-long extravaganza full of bright colors and festive music anticipated by locals and foreigners alike. It is the center of the Sto. Niño catholic and cultural celebrations in the Philippines with more than just beautiful dances, stunning costumes and cultural music. It’s also a time where people come together for different purposes, be it meeting new people, exploring Cebu, and enjoying the parties!
With a growing number of tourists coming to Cebu for the Sinulog festival every year, going from one destination to another can delay the fun, especially with the expected increase in traffic. This is where Grab steps in.
Why Use Grab?
As a proud partner of the festival for three years in a row, Southeast Asia’s leading on-demand transportation and mobile payments platform wanted to make sure that Sinulog 2018 stayed as fun and colorful.
“Cebu is one of Grab’s biggest and most important markets in the country. More than just bringing Cebuanos from point A to B, we want our passengers to get more value with every ride through fun and rewarding moments. Every ride taken with Grab earns them GrabRewards points, which they can use to redeem exciting offers and freebies,” said Raenald de Jesus, Grab Philippines’ Deputy Country Marketing Head.
“We wanted to let Cebuanos know that there’s so much more to a ride and that the fun can start even before getting to their destinations. We lined-up special promotions and activities during the festival and we saw how our passengers enjoyed the celebration,” added De Jesus.

Sinulog Time is Rewards Time
Exciting events and offers were abound during the Sinulog festival, as existing Grab users were treated to special rewards.
A special promo code entitled users to discounts during the festival to and from destinations such as Fuente Osmena, Basilica del Santo Nino, Plaza Independencia, and Cebu City Sports Complex in Abellana.
Festival essentials such as caps, shirts, water bottles and more were up for grabs at the special GrabRewards redemption booth situated at Plaza La Independencia. Using their available GrabRewards points, users only needed a few clicks to claim these offers. Spotted at the redemption booth claiming their rewards were fashion designer Kymberly Maitland-Smith, musician Divine Maitland-Smith, and actor Paul Jake Castillo.
Grab also partnered up with select nearby establishments such as House of Lechon — a well-loved signature Cebuano restaurant that serves some of the best roasted pig in town. Grab users enjoyed discounts on their orders as they dined at the Cebuano favorite, which was available on the GrabRewards catalogue.

De Jesus wanted users in Cebu to fully enjoy their Sinulog week particularly as a “Thank you” for the support through the years. “We are continuously looking for ways to make your Grab rides more rewarding and we hope to celebrate more fun years of Sinulog,” he said.
Grab continues to be the preferred transportation option of Filipinos, and wants to be visible in major festivals in the Philippines to show that getting from point A to point B can truly be fun and rewarding. With Grab, the fun and the rewards are here to stay.
