Early last year was the start of my obsession with green, particularly the shades army, olive and forest green. The moment I laid eyes on that patched army green coat at Bershka, there was an instant spark and the next thing I knew, it was a dominant color in my wardrobe. I started to think, is this going too far? What’s next? Green lips? And then green armpits? Lol. Not too far though. My only concern was if having too much of one color could consequently ruin the art of mixing and matching clothes. Looking like the Grinch wasn’t part of the plan. So, I tried to reassess my clothes thinking of a way to balance things out. As the fashion bible says, when putting together a failproof outfit, balance is key! Not only is this applicable in pairing colors but cuts and patterns too! So here I am, trying to keep it in line with basic rules…
Use the magic of neutral colors
Neutrals never seem to disappoint. Look at how the army green perfectly contrasts the neutrals.
Trench coat – F21
Cropped tee – F21
High waist shorts – Bayo
Crossbody bag – Payless
Peep toe slingback heels – Topshop
Perk it up with patterns
If it looks boring, perhaps you need a bit of pattern.
Stripes Longsleeves – H&M
Culottes – Bershka
Black loafers – H&M
Balance the cuts
A long sleeves fitting top paired with an a-line skirt? yeeess!!
Longsleeves – H&M
A-line skirt – F21
Black loafers – H&M
When in doubt, pair it with black
Need I say more?
Inner sleeveless – Cotton On
Skinny pants – F21
Long vest – 81st and P&rk
Match green with its complementary color
Pink it is! And you might want to pick the blush and rose pinks.
Sweater – Zara
Mini pencil skirt – F21
Keep it simple
No fuss and frills. Just keep it plain and simple.
Slip dress – F21
Strap heels – Parisian
Have fun but play by the rules. 😀
